Teenage Drug Rehab Programs

The teen drug abuse crisis in America has sparked a need for better youth treatment programs.  With an increase in prescription drug use, more teens are exposed to and at risk for developing a problem with drugs.
A recent study says that, “One in five teens are using prescription drugs.”  Unfortunately, due to the dependent nature of prescription pills, many of these teens will develop a very serious habit.  Through early detection and prevention you could save your child from the deadly disease of addiction.
Many parents are not sure of what to look for to find out if their adolescent is experimenting, or has developed a serious drug problem.  Knowing what to look for is the first step in helping your child.
Some of the warning signs and symptoms that your child is abusing drugs are:
  • Problems in school – poor grades, not wanting to attend and/or behavioral issues
  • Physical evidence – finding alcohol, drugs or paraphernalia
  • Change in appetite – either eating more or less
  • Mood swings or attitude problems
  • Change in sleep patterns – sleeping too much or staying up for days
  • Memory/cognitive problems
  • Sudden outbursts of anger or hostility towards certain people or things
  • Dilated or constricted pupils
  • Bloodshot or glassy eyes
  • Weight loss or gain
  • Slurred speech or difficulty communicating
  • Change in friends
  • Lying or keeping secrets
  • Discrepancies in where they say they will be and what time they will be home
If you suspect your teen is abusing drugs, get help before it’s too late.  A teen drug rehab program focuses on the individual adolescent’s drug or alcohol problem with knowledge and compassion.
Many teens with substance abuse problems also have some kind of behavioral issues to address.  Effective youth treatment centers recognize and treat both the addiction and the psychological effects drugs have on teenagers.
An adolescent drug rehab program is similar to an adult treatment plan.  Your child will go through a safe medical detox, followed by a teen inpatient treatment program.  The treatment plan is pretty much the same as for adults, but the beginning stages are somewhat difference.
Getting a young adult to realize and then admit that they have a problem is usually the challenging part.  Many adolescents have not gone through the amount of pain that an adult suffering with drugs or alcohol has gone through.  They haven’t lost things, they still have the idea that drugs are cool, and that they feel like they have to use to fit in.
An effective youth treatment program emphasizes the fact that if they continue on the path of using drugs, then they may never even have things to lose.  A high-quality youth treatment center will help them see the seriousness of drugs and alcohol.  It will teach them the consequences associated with using, sometimes resulting in death.
At an effective teen drug rehab program, your child will be helped by professional counselors, as well as their peers in group therapy run by trained professionals in the field.  They will learn how to deal with peer pressure by building self-esteem and self-confidence.
If your teen is suffering from any other emotional, behavioral or psychological disorders, those issues will be treated simultaneously with their addiction.  In fact, dual diagnosis is very common in youths suffering from substance abuse.  A good adolescent addiction treatment facility is equipped to address all of these issues.
Some adolescent treatment facilities offer an education component.  This means your teen will have the opportunity to continue their academic education while in treatment.
After your child’s stay in a juvenile inpatient treatment program, they will be encouraged to participate in a youth intensive outpatient program.  Here they will learn relapse prevention skills and develop a support group of peers to help them along the way.
It may be necessary for your son or daughter to attend twelve step meetings after treatment as well.  There is hope.  You can get your child the help they need before it’s too late.

  1. You write very well . Addiction of everything is bad. Many people are addict of Alcohol, Smoking and many substances. I am very glad to see that Rehabilitation center perform a good role against the drug. In rehab centers, they purify the patients, treat their withdrawal symptoms and they also perform psycho-emotional treatments as part of the all-inclusive treatment approach.http://www.bayarearecovery.com/Programs/Inpatient
